Carvalho, Tavares & Patriarca Tabbed
All-Tournament as Anchormen Fall
Rowan Downs RIC, 2-0

Glassboro, NJ-Senior midfielders Corey Carvalho (Dartmouth, MA) and Louis Tavares (East Providence, RI), along with junior forward Mike Patriarca (Bristol, RI), were named to the All-Tournament Team, but Rhode Island College was shut out, 2-0, in the title contest of the 2010 Rowan Invitational by the hosts.

Rowan is 3-0 overall, while Rhode Island has a 1-2 record.  Earlier on Saturday, St. Joseph’s College (LI) defeated Berkeley College, 1-0 in the consolation game.  On Friday, Rowan beat St. Joseph’s, 5-1 and Rhode Island had a 4-1 win over Berkeley.

The Profs were led by midfielder Joe Parella (Howell, NJ) with two goals. Midfielders Cristhian Gonzalez (Piscataway, NJ) and Andrew Brawner (Mt. Laurel, NJ) each picked up one assist

Rowan took 12 shots, while Rhode Island had seven. Profs’ goalkeeper Charlie Cunliffe (Lakewood, NJ) made two saves for his second shutout of the season.  Junior goalkeeper Nick Clark (East Bridgewater, MA) stopped three shots for the Anchormen.


Parella’s first goal came at 15:41 in the first period.  He hit a one-timer on a pass from Gonzalez that hit off the far post and into the net.  At 71:22 in the second half, Brawner took a shot that rebounded off the crossbar and Parella headed it in for the goal.


 In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Lasell on Wednesday, Sept. 8.
