RIC Takes Three Singles Matches in Little East Opener
Worcester State Keeps Anchorwomen
Winless in, 6-3, Defeat

Worcester, MA-Junior Gabriela Batek (Greenville, RI) earned a straight set (6-2, 6-2) win at No. 1 singles as the Rhode Island College womenís tennis team lost its Little East Conference opener to Worcester State, 6-3.

Sophomore Doris Belanger (West Warwick, RI) rebounded from a first set loss (2-6, 7-5, 6-2) to win at No. 2 singles, while freshman Kayla Morris (North Smithfield, RI) blanked her opponent (6-0, 6-0) at No. 4 singles for her first collegiate win.                                                                                                            


The Lancers swept all three doubles matches, which put the hosts in the driverís seat heading into singles action.


RIC drops to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the Little East, while Worcester State raises its marks to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the LEC.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, September 14.
