Cranston, RI-Senior Derek Jensen (Cumberland, RI) and sophomore Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, MA) defeated their respective opponents, but Johnson & Wales downed the Rhode Island College men's golf team, 3-2, in day one competition of the first-ever JWU Match Play Tournament played at Cranston Country Club.


In other action, UMass Dartmouth downed Providence College, 4-1.

Johnson & Wales took the No. 1 spot against RIC with senior captain Steve LeDonne (Rehoboth, MA) taking a 5&4 win over senior Bryan Picinisco (Dartmouth, MA). The visiting Anchormen took the No. 2 and 3 slots with JWU posting a 3&2 win by freshman Matt Ross (Marshfield, MA) in the fourth slot. In the No. 5 match, freshman Mike Bubolo (Cortlandt Manor, NY) posted a 2 UP win to help the Wildcats to the 3-2 victory.

Action will continue on Monday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 a.m. when host Johnson & Wales takes on Providence, while UMass Dartmouth faces Rhode Island College. At 1 p.m., JWU will pair off against UMass Dartmouth, while Providence and Rhode Island College tee off to wrap up the tournament.
