DROLET, VOYER & O'NEILL LEAD ANCHORWOMEN TO SEASON-OPENING WIN

Boston, MA-Junior attackers Nicky Drolet (Somersworth, NH) and Molly Voyer (Lincoln, RI), along with freshman midfielder Jessalyn O'Neill (North Providence, RI), each scored three goals as the Rhode Island College women's lacrosse team defeated Emmanuel, 15-4, at Roberto Clemente Field in the Anchorwomen's season opener.

 

Drolet added three assists for a six-point effort. Freshman attacker Ashley Signoriello (Cranston, RI) and sophomore attacker Ashley Appel (Foxboro, MA) each netted two markers, while senior attacker Suany Almonte (Warwick, RI) rounded out the Anchorwomen scorers with a goal of her own.

Freshman goalkeeper Taryn Carbone (Cranston, RI) made six saves to earn her first collegiate victory.

 

Rhode Island College (1-0) opened the game with strong play in the attacking end, taking a 4-0 lead within the first eight minutes of the game. Two goals by Voyer and three assists from sophomore midfielder Courtney McKiernan (Hope, RI) gave the visitors an edge early in the contest.

The Saints (0-2) responded seconds later by taking a draw all the way down the field and earning a free position shot in front of the net. Junior Logan Carr (Saratoga Springs, NY) netted her fifth goal of the season on the ensuing shot.

After three more RIC scores, including another by Voyer, Emmanuel grabbed its second tally of the game with sophomore Madeline Leahy (Cohasset, MA) scoring off an assist from sophomore Hannah Fox (Biddeford, ME). That would be all the scoring for the first stanza, and the Anchorwomen would take a 9-4 lead into the halftime

 Once again, RIC started the half off well, adding three more goals with Signoriello tallying her second of the contest. Leahy helped give the Saints life with her second goal at 22:51 of the half and Carr would once again score for Emmanuel.

 

 Two late scores by sophomore Appel gave RIC a 15-4 victory. Emmanuel freshman keeper Hillary Dandurant (North Branford, CT) made 12 saves.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Worcester State on Tuesday, March 22.
