Hersey Fires 75 as Husson Captures Rhode Island College Spring Invitational
Leigh Places Fourth for Anchormen

Providence, RI-Senior Michael Hersey (Presque Isle, ME) was the medalist with a score of 75 to lead the Husson University menís golf team to a first place finish (12 teams) at the Rhode Island College Spring Invitational played at Triggs Memorial Golf Course.


Husson totaled a team score of 324 (+36), outdistancing second place UMass Dartmouth (326, +38) and Rhode Island College (333, +45) for the win.


Johnson & Wales (339, +51), Endicott (340, +52), Worcester State (342, +54), Babson (343 (+55), Nichols (344 (+56), Elms (358, + 70), Suffolk (367, +79), Anna Maria (369, +81) and Wentworth (372, +84) rounded out the field.


Hersey shot a 36 on the front nine and 39 on the back nine to finish three over par for the day among a field of 60 golfers. He beat Worcester State senior Chris Brunelle (Worcester, MA) by one stroke (76).

Endicott sophomore Jackson Wyman (Falmouth, ME) was third (77), followed by Husson junior Chris Hamel (Waterville, ME) and RIC freshman Tim Leigh (Somerset, MA) who both shot a 78.


For the Anchormen, sophomore Kyle Harper (Rehoboth, MA) tied for sixth (79, +7). Sophomore Kyle Garcia (Rehoboth, MA) tied for 25th (87, +15). Sophomore Joe Quinn (Dedham, MA) tied for 32nd (89, +17). Senior Bryan Picinisco (Dartmouth, MA) tied for 36th (92, +20).


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10.
