4x800m Relay Record Falls as Anchorwomen
Place Third at Coast Guard Invitational

New London, CT—Freshmen Chelsea Marshall (New Bedford, MA) and Jessica Graham (Wakefield, RI), along with seniors Katie Desrosiers (Warwick, RI) and Jamie Nunes (Lincoln, RI), established a new program record in the 4x800m (10:49.61) as the Rhode Island College women’s indoor track and field team placed third at the Coast Guard Invitational.


The hosts won the meet (188), followed by Connecticut College (170), the Anchorwomen (156) and USMMA (38).



 Senior Kayla DiBlasi


Senior Kayla DiBlasi (Smithfield, RI) claimed two victories in individual events, while classmate Brooke Iby (Dracut, MA) followed with a third event win. DiBlasi won the 600m (1:45.75) and the 200m (28.39). Iby paced the 55m (8.07) and finished right behind DiBlasi in the 200m (28.64). The versatile Iby also posted a pair of second place finishes in the triple jump (10.28m) and the 400m (1:04.84).


Individually, Desrosiers enjoyed good showings in her distance runs. She won the 3,000m (11:10.77) and placed second in the 800m (2:36.80).


Graham won the pole vault (2.9m) and placed fourth in the 55m hurdles (9.77). RIC competitors claimed three other second-place finishes. Nunes finished second in the 55m hurdles (9.37). Freshman Natasha Miller (Wakefield, RI) placed second in the 55m (8.21). Sophomore Kim Mangum (Warwick, RI) was runner up in the high jump (1.42m).


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 22.
