Willimantic, CT-Senior forward Carl Lee (Warwick, RI) came off the bench to score 12 points as the Rhode Island College menís basketball team picked up a 60-51 win over Eastern Connecticut on Saturday afternoon in a Little East Conference contest played at Geissler Gymnasium.


Lee was perfect in six attempts from the line, while snaring three rebounds to go along with a steal and block as the Anchormen (11-6, 5-2 LEC) and Warriors (12-4, 5-2 LEC) remain tied for second in the league. RIC sweeps the season series from ECSU, marking the 13th time in the two clubís last 14 meetings that the Anchormen have come away with a win. More importantly, RIC now holds the head-to-head tie breaker with the Warriors.

Senior guard Nick Manson (Newport, RI) had 11 points, made three three-pointers, and grabbed four rebounds. Junior forward Mason Choice (Newport, RI) registered 10 points and tied freshman center Ashton Watkins (Providence, RI) for the team lead with six rebounds. Senior guard Antone Gray (Providence, RI) posted seven points and dished out a game-high four assists.


Eastern Connecticut sealed its own fate in the first half, missing 20 of its first 21 shots, while falling behind by 19 points with five minutes left.

RIC, the conference leader in field goal percentage defense, limited Eastern to 12 percent shooting in the field half and 26.9 percent in the game in downing the Warriors for the sixth straight time.


Trailing by 14 at halftime, 28-14, Eastern scored 15 points in the first eight minutes of the second half and soon-after, cut the gap to 11, 42-31, with 11 minutes left in the game. The Warriors got as close as the final nine-point margin once earlier in the game, with 44 seconds left.


Senior guard Nick Nedwick (Irvington, NY) led the Warriors in scoring for the 12th time, equaling his team-high season average with a game-high 19 points to go along with four steals and four assists. Senior center while Broderick Sawyer (Norwalk, CT) scored 13 of his season-high 15 points in the second half. Junior guard Jamie Kohn (Columbia, CT), the LEC rebounding leader, reached his rebounding average with a game-high nine, but was not able to score from the field until less than four minutes remained in the game.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to UMass Dartmouth for a Little East Conference matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
