Akinrola Named Little East Conference Co-Player of the Week

Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College junior center Mike Akinrola (Woonsocket, RI) was named the Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week. He shares the honor with Western Connecticut junior guard DeQuan Brooks.


Akinrola averaged 21.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game to help Rhode Island College post a 1-1 mark inside the conference circuit this past week. He shot at a 58.6 percent (17-for-29) clip from the field to eclipse the 20-point barrier in each contest. Akinrola registered 20 points and pulled in eight rebounds to lead all scorers at UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 25. Four days later, he connected on 10-of-15 attempts from the floor to score 23 points against UMass Boston.




For the season, Akinrola has played in 19 games, starting all of them. He is averaging 14.3 points, while shooting 57 percent (113-for-198) from the field, and 4.9 rebounds per game.


Head Coach Bob Walsh’s team is currently 12-7 overall and 6-3 (second place) in the Little East Conference.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host No. 6 and undefeated Amherst (18-0) tomorrow night at The Murray Center (7:30 p.m.)
