Sutherland & Rheaume Sweep
Weekly Pilgrim League Awards

Providence, R.I.—Senior 149 lbs. Kevin Sutherland (Dauphin, PA) and sophomore 157 lbs. Ryan Rheaume (Riverhead, NY) were recognized by the Pilgrim Wrestling League for their performance at a tri-match hosted by Roger Williams on Saturday, Feb. 5.


Both wrestlers played key roles in the Anchormen's league wins over Southern Maine (31-15) and the Hawks (21-12). RIC improved to 10-8 overall, 8-4 against New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) opposition and 2-1 in the Pilgrim League.

Sutherland returned to the mat after a two-week layoff to win both of his matches and garner Wrestler of the Week honors. He earned a major decision (9-0) over USM’s Logan Russell and another decision (4-0) over RWU’s Christopher O’Shea. Sutherland has won 11 straight matches to raise his personal mark to 22-1 to go along with 48 takedowns, one reversal, 28 takedowns, 26 near-falls and two pins.

Rheaume, who was tabbed as the league's Rookie of the Week, earned a 5-2 win over RWU’s Kyle D’Urso to help seal the win over the Hawks. He evened his overall record at 13-13 and has 40 takedowns, five reversals, 28 escapes, five near-falls and two pins on the season.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host another Pilgrim League opponent, Coast Guard, tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
