Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College junior forward Mason Choice (Newport, RI) was named the Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his performance in two Anchorman wins last week.


Choice filled up the box score en route to leading Rhode Island College to a 2-0 week in the Little East circuit with victories over No. 14 Western Connecticut and Southern Maine.




He averaged 16 points, 9 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3 steals, while shooting 50 percent (7-for-14) from the field and 75 percent (18-for-24) from the charity stripe. On Feb. 8, he nearly posted a triple-double—12 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists—to lift Rhode Island College past the Colonials. Choice registered season-highs in assists and rebounds, while reaching double figures in scoring for the 14th time on the campaign. Four days later, he netted 20 points and pulled in six boards against the Huskies.


For the season, he has played in 22 games, starting all of them. Choice is averaging 11.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game.


Head Coach Bob Walsh’s team is 15-7 overall and 9-3 in the Little East. RIC currently shares the top spot in the league with Western Connecticut and Eastern Connecticut with two games left in the season.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Feb. 15 before closing out the regular season at Plymouth State on Feb. 19.
