Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College has named Chris Tribelli ’79 as an assistant wrestling coach. He, along with current assistant Bob Smith, will assist Head Coach Jay Jones’ with all facets of the wrestling program including recruiting, scouting, administering practices and meet coaching.




Tribelli was a member of the RIC wrestling program from 1975-79, serving as team captain and capturing All-New England honors as a senior in 1979.


He compiled a distinguished coaching resume at Cranston High School East, leading the Thunderbolts for 27 seasons on the mat. During that time span, his teams placed in the top five of the Rhode Island State Championships 16 times.


Tribelli led Cranston East to Rhode Island state titles in back-to-back seasons in 2002 and 2003. He was inducted into the Rhode Island Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 2008.


He has received numerous other accolades, highlighted by being named the Rhode Island Wrestling Coach of the Year and the USA Wrestling Coach of the Year in 2002.


Tribelli coached over 50 All-State, 15 All-New England and four All-American wrestlers during his tenure at Cranston East. Current RIC Athletic Hall of Famers Scott Carlsten ’94, Scott Martin ’89 and Chris Reddy ’92 are among some the wrestlers he mentored.


He earned a bachelor’s degree in business management with a minor in accounting from Rhode Island College in 1979.


Tribelli resides in Cranston, Rhode Island with his wife Karen ’79 and his daughter Alexa.
