Boyer & Stoermer Lead the Way in Five-Set Victory

Providence, R.I.-After returning home to The Murray Center for the first time in 19 days, the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team picked up their third win of the season in dramatic fashion by knocking off Lasell College in five sets, 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 25-19, 24-26, 15-10).


After the Lasers took the opening set by three, RIC (3-6) rebounded to take the second and third frames, including a commanding six-point win in the third. The Anchormen carried the momentum into the fourth set and jumped out to a 7-0 lead. However, Lasell (6-6) rallied to overcome the deficit and stormed back to force a fifth and final set. Rhode Island College would ultimately prevail in the final stanza, improving their home record to 2-0.

Junior outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, RI) recorded 24 kills and 10 digs in the win, while freshman outside hitter Marina Stoermer (Seattle, WA) notched 20 kills and a team-high 11 digs for the Anchorwomen.

Junior setter Jessica Ho (Providence, RI) tallied a season-high 44 assists, one more than Lasell senior setter Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY), who finished with 43 helpers. Meanwhile, sophomore middle hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, RI) registered 10 kills for RIC and also added a game-high nine blocks.


Senior middle hitter Danielle Drapeau (Biddeford, ME) had a huge night for the Lasers, finishing with 20 kills and 11 digs, while senior outside hitter Eileen Barrett (Ludlow, MA) chipped in with 14 kills and six blocks.


Sophomore defensive specialist Anna Feeter (Peterborough, NH) tallied a game-high 20 digs in the loss, while senior libero Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) added 15 more for Lasell.


In upcoming action, the Rhode Island College hosts Western New England on Thursday at 7 p.m.
