Beacons Top Anchorwomen in Little East Action

Boston, Mass.-Behind a pair of hat tricks from freshman forward Krista Ledin (Bridgewater, MA) and senior forward Kristin Mulry (Holbrook, MA), the UMass Boston women’s soccer team cruised to their first Little East Conference win of the year, defeating Rhode Island College (2-6, 0-2 LEC) by a final score of 9-0 Saturday afternoon at Clark Athletic Center Field

Mulry and Ledin became the first two players to each record a hat trick in the same match in UMass Boston (5-3, 1-1 LEC) history. Sophomore forward Tayla Andrews (Plymouth, MA) also had herself a multi-goal game as she finished the match with her second and third goals of the year.  She also assisted the Beacons final score of the day, which came from sophomore midfielder Kellie Gomes (Halifax, MA).

As a team, the Beacons combined for season-high 34 shots, with 21 of those coming in the first 45 minutes of play. For Rhode Island College, they were held to just one shot thanks to a strong defensive effort led by senior sweeper Samantha Place (Newton, NJ). Junior midfielder Melanie Goes (East Providence, RI) launched the lone shot for RIC.

Freshman goalkeepers Dani Perkins (Murrieta, CA) and Amanda Pang (Lowell, MA) combined for the shutout, with Pang tallying the only UMass Boston save of the afternoon. Meanwhile, Rhode Island College freshman goalkeeper Audrey Maia (Norton, MA) worked tirelessly throughout Saturday’s contest to limit the Beacons chances. In total, she combined for eight saves in her first loss of the season (0-1). Freshman netminder Ashlyn Cleary (Tiverton, RI) closed out the match with one save for RIC.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Framingham State on Wednesday, Sept. 28 (4 p.m.).
