Belanger Notches Team-Leading Fifth Singles Win

Bridgewater, Mass.-Junior Doris Belanger (West Warwick, RI) earned a straight set victory at No. 3 singles as the Rhode Island College women's tennis team lost, 8-1, at Bridgewater State's Rosen Tennis Courts in Little East action on Tuesday afternoon.


The host Bears improve to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Little East.  RIC slips to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play.


Bridgewater captured all three doubles flights and five of the six singles matches to come away with the win.


Sophomore Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, MA) and junior Ashley Pereira (Assonet, MA) posted an 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles, while senior Bridget Murphy (Mattapoisett, MA) and junior Julie Kraby (Wrentham, MA) teamed for an 8-1 triumph at the second flight. Freshmen Rachael Eramo (Rowley, MA) and Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, MA) combined to win at number three, 8-0.


Williamson, Murphy, Pereira, Eramo and Flynn all won in straight sets during singles play at the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth flights respectively.


In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will host Suffolk on Thursday, Sept. 29 (3:30 p.m.)
