Springfield, Mass.-Junior Sam Carney (Franklin, MA) and sophomore Jen Cleary (Nahant, MA) led the Springfield College women's tennis team to a 9-0 victory over Rhode Island College on Thursday in non-conference play at SC's Appleton Courts.


Carney won her singles match for Springfield (3-5) at No. 1 (6-2, 6-1). Cleary won her match at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0). All the singles matches were won in straight sets. Junior Erin Woodbury (Portland, ME) won at No. 3 (6-2, 6-1). Junior Vanessa Senecal (Seekonk, MA) was the victor at No. 4 (6-2, 6-1). Junior Siana Green (Pomfret, CT) was the winner at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0), while sophomore Sydney Streimer (Mystic, CT) won at No. 6 (6-0, 6-0).


The SC doubles teams were also victorious, as Carney and Cleary won at No. 1 (8-0). The duo of Senecal and Streimer were the winners at No. 2 (8-2), while senior Sarah Morgan (Wakefield, RI) and junior Amy Buttarazzi (Scarborough, ME) won at No. 3 (8-0).


In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen resume Little East Conference action at home against Salem State on Saturday, Oct. 8 (noon).
