Providence, RI—The 2011-12 Rhode Island College women’s basketball team will get an early test in preparing for their season when they scrimmage Div. I Providence College from the Big East Conference.


“We have an extremely demanding schedule to prepare for, so testing ourselves against the Big East for a day will be a big step in that preparation,” RIC Head Coach Marcus Reilly said. “As big supporters of Head Coach Phil Seymour and Providence College athletics, we are also committed to helping them prepare for their season by playing to win every possession and competing at our highest level.”

The Rhode Island College women’s basketball team has been picked to win the Little East Conference in the Women’s DIII News preseason preview. Senior forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI) was the publication’s preseason pick for Little East Player of the Year as well as an Honorable Mention to its Preseason All-American Team. The 2011-12 Anchorwomen were also picked as a team to watch, just outside of Women’s DIII News’ Preseason Top 25.


Rhode Island College began practice on Saturday, Oct. 15 and will open the season at the University of New England on Saturday, Nov. 19.
