Brown Named Rookie of the Year; Anchorwomen Receive
Team Sportsmanship Award

Providence, R.I.-Junior Doris Belanger (West Warwick, RI) and freshman Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT) were recognized by the Little East Conference for their performance in women's tennis this season.


Belanger was named First Team All-Little East Conference at No. 3 singles. She was 10-6 (.625) at No. 3 singles and 3-13 (.188) at No. 2 doubles for 11.5 points on the season. Belanger was dominant in LEC play as she sported a 7-1 (.875) mark at third singles. This is her second career All-LEC nod, as she was named First Team All-Little East at No. 6 singles as a freshman in 2009.


Belanger is a nursing major and a 2009 graduate of West Warwick High School.

Brown was named the 2011 Little East Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year. She was 3-13 (.188) at both No. 1 singles and doubles in her freshman season. As only a rookie, she started at both top spots, posting a 2-6 (.250) record at both No. 1 singles and doubles against league competition. Brown was named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week once this fall.


She is a nursing major and a 2011 graduate of Sheehan High School.

Head Coach Liz Barrette's team was also selected to receive the Little East Conference Team Sportsmanship Award. The Anchorwomen finished the season with a 2-14 overall record and a 2-6 (seventh place) mark in the league.
