RIC Stops Four-Game Losing Streak

Providence, R.I.-Senior attacker Nicky Drolet (Somersworth, NH) rattled off six goals and an assist, while sophomore goalkeeper Taryn Carbone (Cranston, RI) made 12 saves, as the Rhode Island College women’s lacrosse team cruised past Worcester State, 14-3, at the RIC Lacrosse Field on Thursday in non-conference action.

Spearheaded by a pair of early scores from Drolet, the Anchorwomen (2-6) notched the first six goals of the game to take a commanding lead in the first half. Trailing, 6-0, the Lancers (1-8) finally got on the board with 10:22 remaining in the first half thanks to a goal from freshman midfielder Jaclyn Lawlor (Westford, MA).

However, RIC responded with two more scores before the end of the frame and eventually went into the half with an 8-2 lead after senior attacker Megan Sheehan (Dunstable, MA) found the back of the net for Worcester State before the end of the stanza.

Sheehan recorded the first goal of the second half to trim the Lancers’ deficit to five, but the Anchorwomen answered with the final six goals of the game, while holding Worcester State scoreless the rest of the way.

Carbone posted one of the best outings of her young career as she allowed just three goals en route to her second win of the season (2-6).

Senior midfielder Jenna Childs (Cranston, RI) netted a goal and junior midfielder Courtney McKiernan (Hope, RI) chipped in with an assist to round out the scoring for the hosts.

O’Neill and Lawlor each led their respective teams with four draw controls a piece, while freshman defender Danielle Landon (Wading River, NY) corralled a game-high six ground balls for the Anchorwomen.

Sheehan scored twice to lead the Lancers, while Lawlor registered her team-leading 20th goal of the season. Junior attacker Daryl Powell (Beverly, MA) and junior midfielder Stacey Doherty (Westford, MA) each contributed an assist for the visitors.

Despite making five saves and scooping up a team-high six ground balls, senior goalkeeper Haley Erickson (Saugus, MA) was tagged with the loss (1-6) for the Lancers.
