Providence, RI—Rhode Island College senior shortstop Kyle Allaire (Uxbridge, MA) was named the Little East Conference Baseball Player of the Week and junior pitcher David Hoey (Lincoln, RI) was named the Pitcher of the Week for their respective performances in a 3-1 week for the Anchormen.


Allaire, who was also selected to the Team of the Week, registered six hits this past week to become the Rhode Island College all-time hits leader (192), surpassing the previous standard set by Mike Naylor. He batted .625 (6-for-11) with a double and three runs batted in as the Anchormen went 3-0 against Little East opposition. Allaire recorded multiple base knocks in each of his four appearances. He went a combined 4-for-8 with four runs scored and two RBI as Rhode Island College swept No. 15 Eastern Connecticut on April 21. Allaire also went 4-for-5 in a non-conference loss to Curry two days earlier.

For the season, he has played in 31 games, starting all of them. Allaire is batting .376 (47-for-125) with 47 hits, 31 runs scored, four doubles, 12 RBI and 10 stolen bases.


Hoey hurled his first complete game shutout of the season as Rhode Island College earned a key Little East victory at No. 15 Eastern Connecticut on April 21. He scattered nine hits, on eight singles and a double, while striking out three to keep the Warriors off balance. Hoey retired the side in order during the third and fifth innings, respectively, en route to an 8-0 Anchorman victory.

For the season, he has appeared in eight games, starting four of them. Hoey is 4-1 with a 2.43 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 37.0 innings pitched.


Head Coach Scott Virgulak’s team is 20-11 overall and 7-3 (second place tie) in the Little East. In upcoming action, RIC will host Salve Regina on Tuesday, April 24 (3:30 p.m.).
