Providence, R.I.-Senior guard Stephanie Coro (North Providence, RI) posted 21 points and a career-high eight steals, while senior guard Cynthia Gaudet (Coventry, RI) tallied 17 points, as the Rhode Island College women’s basketball team cruised to an 87-39 victory over Johnson & Wales at The Murray Center on Tuesday night.

Senior forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI) totaled seven points and 14 rebounds for the Anchorwomen, who outrebounded the Wildcats, 61-32, and also notched 27 offensive boards as a team. RIC (3-1) held a definitive edge in the turnover battle as well, forcing JWU (1-3) into 34 turnovers. "It was great to get contributions from everyone on the roster," Head Coach Marcus Reilly said afterwards. "Our defense continues to get stops and turnovers that lead to easy baskets and we continue to share the ball on offense leading to great scoring balance."

Rhode Island College jumped out to a 15-0 lead after just four and a half minutes, due largely in part to eight points from a red-hot Coro, as well as a handful of forced turnovers. The Wildcats ended the drought with 15:07 on the clock in the first half thanks to a three-pointer from freshman guard Natalie DiCocco (Media, PA). However, Rhode Island College proceeded to rattle off 18 unanswered points over the next seven minutes, until sophomore guard Jenna Juron (Burnt Hills, NY) snapped the skid with a bucket for JWU, making it, 33-5, Anchorwomen with 8:44 remaining in the first half.

The hosts rolled through the remainder of the first half, heading into the break with a 50-18 lead. The second half was much of the same for RIC, as they outscored the Wildcats, 37-21, in the second stanza. Eleven different Anchorwomen scored in the ballgame as the team shot 41 percent (32-for-79) from the field and 47 percent (8-for-17) from beyond the three-point arc. Coro led the team with four threes, while Gaudet knocked three treys of her own.

Senior guard Nicole Girard (Foster, RI) registered nine points and three assists, while freshman forward Katie Donovan (Hudson, NH) added eight points and four rebounds. Junior guard Ashley O’Dell (Lincoln, RI) recorded seven points, four boards and a game-high five assists, while senior guard Brittany Saccoccio (Glocester, RI) added six points and four rebounds off the bench.

Juron led the Wildcats with nine points, while freshman guard Kaitlin Kenney (Bradford, CT) added eight points. Freshman forward Samantha Hendrick (Castleton-On-Hudson, NY) led JWU with eight rebounds, and also tallied six points in the loss.
