Johnson Breaks Weight Throw MarK

Gorham, MaineFreshman Daria Braboy (Providence, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events as Rhode Island College placed seventh (10 teams) at the 2012 Alliance Track & Field Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon. Southern Maine won the title with a team score of 168, while the Anchorwomen totaled a team score of 43.0.


 The Anchorwomen placed fourth (six teams) among Little East Conference institutions with a score of 58.0.


Braboy claimed the Alliance Championship in the 400m, placing first (58.87), while also finishing second in the triple jump (10.91m) and fourth in the 200m (26.69). Braboy also placed ninth in the long jump (4.93m) and in the preliminaries of the 55m (7.55).


Freshman Kadijah Johnson (Central Falls, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors in the weight throw with a third place effort (15.88m), which broke the program record she previously established. She also placed 21st in the shot (8.35) and 10th in the preliminaries of the 55m (7.66).


Freshman Kayla Cataldo (Ronkonkoma, NY) earned N.E. Alliance honors in the pole vault with a fourth place effort (2.90m).


The 4x200m relay team comprised of Braboy, sophomore Natasha Miller (Wakefield, RI), freshman Chelsea Key (Putman, CT) and Johnson placed fourth (1:51.05).


The 4x400m relay team made up of Braboy, Cataldo, Miller and Key placed fifth (4:17.73).


In upcoming action, select member of the team will compete at the New England Div. III Championships, hosted by Smith on Feb. 17-18.
