Providence, R.I.—Rhode Island College sophomore 174 lbs. Caleb Crump (Tucson, AZ) was named the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Rookie of the Week, while senior 149 lbs. Mike Trasso (Lyndhurst, NJ) was named the Pilgrim League Wrestler of the Week, for their respective performances at a quad-match hosted by Bridgewater State on Saturday, Feb. 11.


Crump picked up his third NEWA Rookie of the Week honor this season after going 3-0 last weekend. He defeated BSU’s Ryan Cassidy, 7-1, pinned Coast Guard’s Vaughn Gehman at 2:16 and won, 6-2, over Trinity’s Kyle Muir.

He has won five straight matches and is 20-12 with 47 takedowns, four reversals, 16 escapes, 11 near-falls and eight pins.


Trasso earned his second Pilgrim League award on the season after winning two matches on Saturday. He defeated Mike Giorgio from Coast Guard, 6-2, and pinned Trinity’s Thomas Crabtree at 2:03.

For the season, he is 19-5 with 46 takedowns, three reversals, 12 escapes, seven near-falls and two pins.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2012 New England Championships, hosted by Wesleyan on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25-26.
