Providence, RIóRhode Island College senior center Mike Akinrola (Woonsocket, RI) was named Second Team All-ECAC for his performance in menís basketball this season. 




Akinrola, a two-time First Team All-Little East Conference selection, earned All-ECAC honors for the second consecutive season. He also was named Third Team All-Northeast Region by and earned Little East Conference Player of the Week honors once on the season. Akinrola played in 30 games, starting 29 of them. He averaged 18.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Akinrola scored a career-high 36 points and grabbed a career-best 13 rebounds in a 93-87 loss to Western Connecticut on Jan. 24. On Feb. 21, he became the 31st player in program history to record 1,000 career points in a win over Plymouth State. Akinrola posted double-digit scoring efforts in 28 of the 30 games, including the final 17 games of the season. He also accumulated five double-doubles on the year.


Head Coach Bob Walshís team finished the season with a 23-7 overall record and a 10-4 (second place tie) mark in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen were one of five teams in the nation selected to play in the NCAA Div. III Menís Basketball Tournament for the sixth straight season. RIC defeated Salem State, 77-60, on March 2 before falling to Staten Island, 77-67, on March 3 to close out the season. RIC has won 20 or more games for six consecutive seasons and seven of the last eight.
