Worcester, Mass.- Freshman Sarah Goodwin (Greenville, RI) recorded victories at No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles to help guide the Rhode Island College women’s tennis team to a 7-2 win over Worcester State on Saturday afternoon in Little East Conference action.


The Anchorwomen improved to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the Little East, while the Lancers fall to 3-4 and 0-3 in the LEC.

Reigning Little East Conference Rookie of the Week Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and sophomore Janice Wang (Branchburg, NJ) earned an 8-3 victory for RIC at No. 1 doubles to jumpstart the afternoon for the visitors, while Goodwin and freshman Alyssa Diaz (Cranston, RI) teamed up to notch an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.


After winning two out of three doubles matches, the Anchorwomen cruised through five of six singles flights en route to the, 7-2, victory. Campanella was victorious at No. 1 singles (6-4, 7-5), while sophomore Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT) followed with a win at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-3). Goodwin picked up her second victory of the season at No. 3 singles (4-6, 6-1, 11-9), while freshman Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) followed suit with a win at No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-1). Wang rounded out the scoring with a victory at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-3). 


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College hosts Bridgewater State on Tuesday, Sept. 25 (3:30 p.m.), while Worcester State hits the road to face MCLA on Sunday, Sept. 23 (1 p.m.).
