Providence, R.I.-The Bridgewater State University women’s tennis team remained unbeaten in Little East Conference play as the Bears blanked Rhode Island College, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Courts.


Bridgewater improves to 5-2 on the season and 3-0 in the Little East, while RIC slips to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.


Junior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, MA) paced the visitors with a 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory at No. 1 singles and teamed with senior Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, MA) for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Hopp added a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 5 singles.


Senior Ashley Pereira (Assonet, MA), freshman Alison Vautrin (Somerset, MA) and sophomore Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, MA) all posted straight set wins in singles play at the second, fourth and sixth flights, respectively. Meanwhile, senior Brittney Hislop (Burley, WA) managed to muster a win in a three-set tie-breaker (6-2, 3-6, 10-8) at No. 3 singles against freshman Sarah Goodwin (Greenville, RI).


Pereira and Hislop paired up for an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Vautrin and sophomore Rachael Eramo (Rowley, MA) posted an 8-4 decision at No. 3 doubles.


In upcoming action, RIC hits the road to take on non-conference foe Suffolk University on Thursday, Sept. 27 (6 p.m.). Meanwhile, Bridgewater State travels to Little East rival UMass Boston on Saturday, Sept. 29 (1 p.m.).
