North Dartmouth, Mass.-Freshman midfielder Camilo Estrada (Pawtucket, RI) scored late in the second half as the Rhode Island College menís soccer team fell to UMass Dartmouth, 4-1, in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.


UMass Dartmouth improved to 7-2 and 3-0 with the victory, while the Anchormen fell to 2-6-1 and 1-2 in LEC play with the defeat.


UMD freshman forward Aelaf Solomon (Framingham, MA) had his first career multi-goal game to lead the Corsairs to victory. Solomon opened the scoring in the 29th minute when he raced past two defenders and chipped the ball over a diving keeper. He struck again two minutes into the second half when found the back of the net off a pass from junior forward Victor Ferreira (St. Michael, Portugal).

The Corsairs added to their lead in the 62nd minute when sophomore defender Josh Chao (New Bedford, MA) scored off a free kick from outside the penalty area for his first tally of the season. However, the Anchormen responded moments later, cutting the deficit to two when Estrada converted a pass from sophomore forward Emmanuel Asiedu (Lincoln, RI).


UMD would answer back in the 81st minute to add to its lead when Ferreira found the back of the net for his third goal of the season to cap the scoring.


The Corsairs outshot the Anchormen, 20-7, en route to the victory. Junior goalkeeper Mike Phelan (Carver, MA) made three saves and improved his record to 7-2 on the year. Freshman netminder Tyler Mandeville (Webster, MA) also made a save for UMD, while sophomore goalkeeper Christopher Duarte (Cumberland, RI) made five saves for RIC in the loss (2-6-1).


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College hosts Montclair State on Tuesday, Oct. 2 in non-conference action (4 p.m.). Meanwhile, the Corsairs will return to action when they host Roger Williams on Thursday, Oct. 4 (4 p.m.)
