Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College senior right-hander Jessica Borden (Lincoln, RI) was named the Little East Conference Pitcher of the Week for her performance in a 4-2 week for the Anchorwomen.


Through three games, Borden went 2-0 with a pristine 0.88 ERA in 16 innings to help the Anchorwomen improve their record to 10-6 on the season. Opponents hit just .207 against Borden, who struck out four and walked just one along the way.


After tossing two scoreless innings of relief in the first game of a doubleheader with Worcester State on Thursday, Borden hurled a complete game against the Lancers in the nightcap to earn her first victory of the season. The senior right-hander scattered just two runs on seven hits in the win.




On Saturday, Borden followed with a complete game, five-hit shutout in the second half of a doubleheader with Southern Maine to help Rhode Island College seal a sweep of the Huskies in its first Little East Conference action of the season.  


Borden also contributed at the plate over the course of the week, hitting .444 (4-for-9) with two runs scored.


On the season, Borden is 2-1 in five games in the pitching circle with a 3.20 ERA and five strikeouts in 19.2 innings of work.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College hits the road to face Bridgewater State for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 2 (3 p.m.).
