Collegeville, Penn.- Junior 285 lbs. Brian Nicoll (Plaistow, NH) went a perfect 3-0 on the day, while junior 133 lbs. Silas Murray (Brentwood, NY), junior 125 lbs. Jonathan Murray (Brentwood, NY) and junior 157 lbs. Ryan Rheaume (Riverhead, NY) each picked up a pair of victories, as the Rhode Island College wrestling team went 0-4 at the Ursinus North/South Duals on Saturday afternoon.


In the first bout of the day, the Anchormen picked up back-to-back wins from senior 125 lbs. Mike Sugermeyer (Hampden, MA) and Silas Murray to take an early, 6-0, lead over Delaware Valley College (4-0), with Murray’s win coming against freshman Patrick Davis (Madison, NJ), a Honorable Mention at 133 lbs. After the Aggies received a pair of victories at 141 lbs. and 149 lbs. to take a 7-6 lead, Rheaume helped Rhode Island College regain the lead with a hard-fought, 8-6, decision at 157 lbs. However, Delaware Valley College responded with five straight wins, which included three straight pins, to close out the match to seal the, 33-9, victory.

After dropping their first match of the day, the Anchormen followed with a closely contested bout against No. 21 York College (10-4). Jonathan Murray, Silas Murray and freshman 141 lbs. Damen Patisaul (Plant City, FL) each recorded victories to give RIC an early, 10-0, lead, with Patisaul’s victory coming over junior Chuck Glatz (Medford, NJ), a Contender at 141 lbs. However, the Spartans rattled off six consecutive victories, including a pin and a win by forfeit, to take a commanding, 26-10, advantage. Nicoll pinned his opponent less than two minutes into his contest to close out the match, but it wasn’t enough for the Anchormen as they fell to the nationally-ranked Spartans.

Rhode Island College fell behind early in its match with Ursinus College (5-1) after three straight defeats put the Anchormen in an 11-0 hole. Junior Kevin Barrucci (Burlington, MA) put RIC on the scoreboard with a 13-5 major decision at 149 lbs., but the Bears bounced back with five straight victories to take control of the match. Once again, Nicoll closed out the bout on a high note with a 10-0 major decision at 285 lbs. to pick up his second victory of the day.

In the final match of the day, the Anchormen jumped out to an early, 6-0, lead over No. 23 Messiah College (6-3) thanks to a pin from Jonathan Murray less than three minutes into his bout. After the Falcons reeled off three straight victories to take a 10-6 lead, Rheaume answered back for Rhode Island College with an 8-7 decision at 157 lbs. to pull the Anchormen within a point. Yet, nationally-ranked Messiah College responded with four straight victories, including three by forfeit, to take a commanding, 32-9, lead. For third time on the afternoon, Nicoll closed out the match with a win, this time a 6-3 decision over junior Charles Jones (Boyertown, PA), a Honorable Mention at 285 lbs.
