Malboeuf Leads the Way as Anchorwomen Drop Two at RWU Invitational

Bristol, R.I.-Sophomore outside hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI) posted 11 kills in two matches as the Rhode Island College women's volleyball team lost a pair of contests, 3-0, to Babson and Union, respectively, at the 2013 Roger Williams Invitational on Friday.


Senior middle hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, RI) registered six kills, three service aces and 13 digs, while sophomore right side hitter Morgan Stewart (Willington, CT) racked up five kills.

Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, RI) totaled a team-high 21 assists to go along with eight digs and freshman setter Nicole Thibodeau (Loxahatchee, FL) was credited with 17 digs.


The Anchorwomen opened against the Beavers, who quickly dispatched RIC, 25-5, in the first set. RIC battled back to lose close contests in the second, 25-23, and third sets, 25-21, respectively. Cabral had five kills and eight digs in the match.


Union dominated RIC in the second match, winning the first and third sets by a score of 25-7, while taking the middle stanza, 25-11. Malboeuf had seven kills to pace the RIC offense.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue competition at the RWU Invitational tomorrow against Plattsburgh State and St. John Fisher.
