Waltham, Mass.-Senior middle hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, RI) was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance at the Brandeis Invitational this past weekend. The Anchorwomen went 0-4 on Friday and Saturday with non-conference losses to Coast Guard, Tufts, Wellesley and Trinity.


RIC (0-9) opened the competition on Friday against Coast Guard but fell short, 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-17), despite the efforts of sophomore outside hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI), who finished with six kills in the loss. Cabral tallied three kills and four digs, sophomore right side hitter Morgan Stewart (Willington, CT) totaled four kills and five digs and sophomore right side hitter Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, RI) dished out 19 assists.

Later on Friday, the Anchorwomen came up empty against Tufts, 3-1 (25-14, 21-25, 25-9, 25-11), to fall to 0-2 on the day. Malboeuf shined for RIC with nine kills, while Cabral notched five kills and eight digs. Palazzini handed out 20 assists, while Stewart chipped in with eight digs. Freshman libero Nicole Thibodeau (Loxahatchee, FL) added seven digs.


RIC opened the action on Saturday with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-11) loss against undefeated Wellesley. Malboeuf racked up 11 kills to lead the way, while Cabral posted four kills and three digs. Stewart contributed with five digs, while Palazzini tallied 15 assists.


The Anchorwomen closed out the Brandeis Invitational with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-17) loss to Trinity (CT). Stewart paced the Anchorwomen with four kills and six digs, while Cabral notched seven digs. Palazzini posted nine assists, while Malboeuf recorded four kills.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Clark on Tuesday, Sept. 10 (7 p.m.).
