Providence, R.I.-Senior middle hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, RI) racked up nine kills and five digs for the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team in a 3-0 loss to Clark University on Tuesday night in non-conference action at the Rhode Island College Recreation Center.


Led by senior setter Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, CA), who tallied a whopping 27 assists, and freshman outside hitter Savannah Sanford (San Anselmo, CA), who chalked up eight kills, eight digs and five service aces, Clark (4-1) was able to dispatch Rhode Island College (0-10) in just three sets.

The Cougars took the first set, 25-7, before holding off the Anchorwomen in a tightly contested second set, 25-17. The visitors put RIC away in the third set, 25-15, en route to their fourth victory in a row.


Sophomore setter Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, RI) handed out 18 assists in the loss to go along with five digs, while sophomore outside hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI) totaled four kills and six digs. Sophomore right side hitter Morgan Stewart (Willington, CT) notched four kills and three digs, while sophomore setter Emma Cajthaml (El Cajon, CA) and freshman libero Nicole Thibodeau (Loxahatchee, FL) each chipped in with six digs for the Anchorwomen.


Aside from solid performances from Spera and Sanford, freshman libero Mia Cattaneo (Santa Barbara, CA) registered nine digs and two aces for the Cougars, while sophomore middle blocker Anne Read (Arundel, ME) recorded seven kills and a match-high three blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albuquerque, NM) added six digs, five kills and three aces in the win.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College hits the road to face St. Joseph’s (ME) on Saturday in non-conference action (noon).
