Warwick, R.I.-There was A great turn out for the RIC Wrestling fourth Annual Golf Day at Valley Country Club.  The previous participant attendance level was crushed by 30 players.

"We are so proud of our alumni, friends, current team members, and families for helping bring this event together," RIC Head Coach Jay Jones said. "We would like to thank our administrative team, specifically Scott Gibbons and Tony Rainone for their efforts and support, along with Dan Gannon who provided the signage for the event. We would also like to thank the Valley CC staff for outstanding service: golf course was in great shape, food was excellent, everyone was smiling and happy all day."

The champions on the day shot 12 under par 60, and were made up of some RIC wrestling alumnus including Colin Smith, who now coaches in Cumberland and runs Blackstone Wrestling Club as well as current RIC assistant coach Brendan Casey.  They were joined by the golfers in the group Warren Mowry (2011 champ) and North Attleboro assistant coach Geoff Burgess.  Three groups were tied at 10 under par 62 for second place.

RIC Wrestling gave away over $1,000 in prizes at the event.  The event raises funds for team enhancement travel as well as personalized team gear.

Upcoming RIC wrestling events include Green Up Clean Up campus community service event on Saturday, Sept. 21.  The team will then participate in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk community service effort in Cranston's Garden City on Saturday, Sept. 28.

They will also facilitate the Homecoming 5K Race/Walk on Saturday morning October 5th at 9am.
