Providence, R.I.-Senior middle hitter Devyn Frank (Mystic, CT) notched 12 kills to lead Western New England past Rhode Island College, 3-0, in the first contest of a women’s volleyball tri-match played at The Murray Center on Saturday morning.


WNE (12-5) also got five kills apiece from junior outside hitter Kasey Cameron (Reading, MA) and senior outside hitter Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, NY). The setter tandem of freshmen Jenna Leuck (Dumont, NJ) and Jessica Sincero (Verplanck, NY) combined for 27 assists with 15 and 12, respectively.


The visitors cruised to a 25-4 win in the first set, won set two, 25-13, and closed out the Anchorwomen (1-17), 25-10, in the final frame.

Junior libero Grace Kucharski (Avon, CT) led the way with 13 digs, while Leuck and junior defensive specialist Kenra Ouimette (Conway, MA) each recorded seven. Leuck, Frank and Ouimette registered three service aces apiece.


RIC senior middle hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, RI) posted four kills and eight digs, while sophomore outside hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI) chipped in with three kills. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, RI) contributed seven digs.


In upcoming action, Western New England will battle Westfield State (11 a.m.) and the Anchorwomen will face the Owls (1 p.m.).
