Providence, R.I.-Despite senior middle hitter Amanda Cabralís (Riverside, RI) nine kills and 14 digs, the Rhode Island College womenís volleyball team fell to UMass Dartmouth, 3-1, in Little East Conference action on Tuesday night played at the Rhode Island College Recreation Center.


UMass Dartmouth (6-13, 1-3 LEC) rallied to take the first set on Tuesday, 25-22, while Rhode Island College (1-19, 0-3 LEC) rebounded to win the second set, 25-20. The Corsairs outlasted the Anchorwomen in the third set, 25-19, to take a 2-1 lead into the fourth frame of the night.


In the fourth set, RIC jumped out to an early, 10-3, lead in an effort to push the visitors into a fifth and final set. However, behind the strong service game of sophomore outside hitter Brianna Perry (New Bedford, MA), UMD responded with an unprecedented, 17-0, run to storm ahead of the Anchorwomen, 20-10. The Corsairs eventually knocked off the hosts, 25-14, to seal their first LEC victory of the season.

UMass Dartmouth was led by Perry, who finished with 10 kills, 13 digs and four aces. Senior middle hitter Tahirah Gibson (Norwood, MA) posted 10 kills and a block. Junior outside hitter Madison Shea (Millis, MA) registered nine kills and hit. 467, while sophomore outside hitter Jasmine Burris (New Bedford, MA) chipped in with five kills, 11 digs and one ace.


Freshman setter Christina Spinazola (Medway, MA) handed out 32 assists to go along with 10 digs and two aces for UMD. Sophomore libero Carina Filosa (Milford, MA) corralled a match-high 28 digs on the night.


Cabralís effort paced Rhode Island College, as the senior also chipped in with a pair of aces and a block. Freshman middle hitter Dara Johnson (Boston, MA) totaled seven kills and two blocks, hitting .636 along the way, while sophomore right side hitter Morgan Stewart (Willington, CT) hit .385 and contributed with seven kills, three assists, two blocks and two digs.


Sophomore setter Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, RI) finished with a team-high 18 assists to go along with 14 digs, three kills and two aces. Sophomore setter Emma Cajthaml (El Cajon, CA) added 10 assists and eight digs, while sophomore outside hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI) registered six kills, eight digs, three blocks and two aces. Sophomore right side hitter Adriana Ambari (Beacon Falls, CT) racked up a match-high five blocks, while totaling three kills as well. 


Junior libero Karla Santizo (Warwick, RI) accounted for 10 digs, while freshman libero Melissa Ring (Salem, NH) added six digs.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Salem State on Thursday, Oct. 10 (6 p.m.).
