Bridgewater, Mass.-Senior Lauren Hopp (Dartmouth, MA) and Jackie McGuirk (Raynham, MA) each posted a pair of victories to lead Bridgewater State to a 5-0 victory over Rhode Island College in the 2013 Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament Championship Match on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.


Bridgewater State (14-0) advances to the NCAA Tournament, while Rhode Island College (14-3) sees its season come to a close. The win marks the second straight Little East Conference Tournament Championship for the Bears and their fourth title in the last seven seasons.




The top-seeded Bears cruised through doubles play to set themselves up with an early, 3-0, lead. Hopp and senior Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, MA) upended sophomore Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and freshman Jorgie Martin (Smithfield, RI) at No. 1 doubles (8-4) while McGuirk and junior Melissa Flynn (Stoneham, MA) shutout the freshman tandem of Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) and Julie Reddy (Greenville, RI) at No. 2 doubles (8-0). Junior Rachael Eramo (Rowley, MA) and sophomore Alison Vautrin (Somerset, MA) topped junior Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT) and sophomore Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) at No. 3 doubles (8-3).


Following a few stellar performances in doubles play, McGuirk and Hopp were each victorious at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, to seal the win for the Bears. McGuirk dispatched Brown (6-1, 6-0) while Hopp followed with a (6-1, 6-2) win over Cannata.


After winning a combined total of six matches over the past three seasons, the second-seeded Anchorwomen bounced back in historic fashion this season under Head Coach Adam Spring, as their 14 victories set the program record for single-season wins.
