Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College junior forward Chris Burton (New Rochelle, NY) and freshman guard Austin Cilley (Westerly, RI) were honored for their performance in a 2-0 week for the Anchormen.


Burton was named the Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. He averaged 12 points, three rebounds and three steals per game to fill up the statistics sheet this past week. He shot 50 percent (8-for-16) from the floor, while converting on each of his seven attempts from the foul line. On Dec. 10, Burton poured in 15 points and pulled in three rebounds as the Anchormen defeated Salve Regina, 80-67. Four days later, he scored nine points and collected three caroms in just 14 minutes of action as Rhode Island College pushed past UMass Boston, 76-50, to earn its first Little East win of the season.

For the season, Burton has played in 10 games, starting seven of them. He is averaging 12.3 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.6 bpg and 2.6 steals per game.


Cilley was named the Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week. Cilley averaged 13 points and four assists per game. He connected on 42.9 percent (9-for-21) of his attempts from the field, including 40 percent (6-for-15) from behind the three-point arc. On Dec. 10, he scored 10 points and handed out six assists in the victory over Salve Regina. Four days later, Cilley netted 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and dished out a pair of helpers, to lift the Anchormen past Little East foe UMass Boston.

For the season, he has played in eight games, starting six of them. He is averaging 10.4 ppg, 2.4 rpg and 3.1 apg.


Head Coach Bob Walsh’s team is 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the Little East Conference. In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Johnson & Wales on Sunday, Jan. 5 (2 p.m.).
