Providence, R.I.-Seven Rhode Island College wrestlers are ranked in the latest edition of the 2013-2014 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Individual Rankings, including seniors Brian Nicoll (Plaistow, NH) and Silas Murray (Brentwood, NY), along with sophomore Ricondo Cole (Cranston, RI), who are all ranked No. 1 in their respective weight classes.


Nicoll, who also stands at No. 7 in the nation at 285 lbs. according to the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Individual Rankings, remains locked in as the No. 1 heavyweight in New England after going 2-1 this past weekend at the Ursinus North/South Duals. For the season, Nicoll is 12-2 with 11 takedowns, nine escapes, three near-falls and four pins.


Meanwhile, Murray, who went 2-0 this past weekend at the Ursinus North/South Duals, continues his run as the No. 1 wrestler in New England at 133 lbs. For the year, Murray is a perfect 9-0 with 12 takedowns, two reversals, five escapes, four near-falls and two pins.

Wrestling at 141 lbs., Cole makes his first appearance at No. 1 in New England after a perfect 4-0 performance at the Ursinus North/South Duals this past weekend. On the season, Cole is 11-3 with 31 takedowns, five escapes, 10 near-falls and four pins.


Junior Jonathan Murray (Brentwood, NY) makes his first appearance of the year in the NEWA Individual Rankings and is ranked No. 2 in New England at 125 lbs. After missing the first half of the season, Murray is 3-2 with five takedowns, three reversals, seven escapes, three near-falls and two pins.


Junior Joseph Slane (Tomkins Cove, NY), who is ranked No. 5 in New England at 149 lbs., also makes his first appearance in the rankings after going 1-0 at the Ursinus North/South Duals this past weekend. For the year, Slane is 1-1 with one takedown and two escapes.


Junior Kyle Humphries (East Longmeadow, MA), who recently went 1-1 at the Ursinus North/South Duals this past weekend, is ranked No. 6 in New England once again this season at 184 lbs. He is 6-3 for the year with 15 takedowns, two reversals, 12 escapes and two near-falls.


Freshman Kyle Lake (Toms River, NJ) is ranked No. 6 in New England at 157 lbs. for the first time this season. Lake, who went 2-2 this weekend at the Ursinus North/South Duals, is 10-4 on the season with 24 takedowns, five reversals, 19 escapes, six near-falls and three pins.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Mount St. Vincent Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 18 (10 a.m.).
