Bridgewater, Mass.-Junior 149 lbs. Joseph Slane (Tomkins Cove, NY) was named to the All-Tournament Team as Rhode Island College placed fourth at the 2014 Headlock for Hunger New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Championship hosted by Bridgewater State on Sunday afternoon.

The fourth-seeded Anchormen drew 13th-seeded Western New England in the first round and only surrendered 12 points on two forfeits. RIC picked up 12 quick points on forfeits at 125 and 133 lbs. Sophomore Chris Kelly (Franklin, MA), freshman 157 lbs. Thomas Whitaker (Gainesville, VA) and junior 197 lbs. Brohen Krsulic (Brooklyn, CT) each picked up pins in the victory.

Rhode Island College moved on to face fifth-seeded Williams in the second round and came away with a 22-17 victory. Sophomore 141 lbs. Ricondo Cole (Cranston, RI) picked up a pin as the Anchormen won the first four bouts and opened up a 16-0 lead. A pin and a decision late in the match pulled the Ephs within two points, 19-17, but senior 285 lbs. Brian Nicoll's (Plaistow, NH) decision in the final bout sent RIC to the championship round.

Rhode Island College moved on to face top-seeded Springfield in what proved to be a nail-biter. After the first two matches, Cole and Slane picked up decisions at 141 and 149 lbs. to go up, 9-3. After two Pride victories, freshman 174 lbs. Justin Caparco (Johnston, RI) and junior 184 lbs. Kyle Humphries (East Longmeadow, MA) staked the Anchormen to a 15-9 lead with to bouts to go.  A major victory gave Springfield a big boost and Irakli Kakauridze won it for the Pride with a decision at 285 lbs.

In the battle for third and fourth place, second-seeded Johnson & Wales closed out the day with a 23-15 win over the Anchormen. Junior 125 lbs. Jonathan Murray (Brentwood, NY) and senior 133 lbs. Silas Murray (Brentwood, NY) put RIC on top, 6-0, with a pair of decisions, but JWU responded with back-to-back major victories to take an 8-6 lead. Freshman 157 lbs. Kyle Lake (Toms River, NJ) put the Anchormen back on top, 9-8, but a pin gave the Wildcats the lead back, 14-9. Caparco won, 7-6, at 174 lbs., however a pin and and a decision sealed the win for JWU.
