Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College sophomore forward Vandell Andrade (Providence, RI) was named a First Team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Div. III All-Star for her performance in women’s basketball this season.


Andrade posted a banner season for the Anchorwomen, as she was named Second Team All-Region by NEWBA, the Little East Conference Player of the Year, the LEC Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Little East, and earned a spot on the league’s All-Defensive Team. She is just the second player in conference history to earn Player and Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same campaign. The 2014 Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, Andrade started in all 29 games this season for RIC and led the conference circuit in both rebounding (12.3 rpg) and field goal percentage (.564). She also led the league in steals (3.0 spg), ranked second in blocked shots (1.8 bpg), and third in scoring (14.0 ppg).




The sophomore posted 18 double-doubles and reached double-digits in scoring 22 times, while pouring in at least 20 points on five separate occasions. Andrade registered a season-high 24 points against Plymouth State on Feb. 25 in the opening round of the 2014 Little East Conference Tournament. Meanwhile, she hauled in at least 11 rebounds in 17 games, including a season-best 22 rebounds in a pair of contests against Keene State College. Andrade registered at least one steal in 28 of 29 games this past winter and racked up a season-best six steals and six blocks at UMass Dartmouth on Feb. 18. Andrade earned Little East Player of the Week honors three times this season.


She also received the Kevin McNamara Div. III Women’s Player of the Year Award from the Cox Sports R.I. Basketball Media, signifying her as the top female Div. III women’s basketball player in the state.
