Later in the afternoon, Rhode Island College (1-1) fell to Trine, 7-6 (eight innings), in the second game of Friday’s doubleheader with the Thunder. Although RIC garnered a trio of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game, 6-6, Trine senior outfielder Jeff Phillips (Prospect, OH) smacked a walk-off single to left field in the bottom of the eighth that scored junior second baseman Ethan Prebynski (Auburn, IN) and propelled the Thunder to the extra-inning victory.

Junior right-hander Kyle Morvan (Smithfield, RI) provided 3.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen in relief of RIC junior starting pitcher Dylan Cummiskey (Warwick, RI) to keep the Anchormen in the ballgame. Morvan fanned four batters, while walking just one and allowing just two hits. Meanwhile, junior right-hander Joe Brooks (Pawtucket, RI) was tagged with the loss (0-1) for RIC.
