Providence, R.I.-Freshman forward Komla Dolby (Providence, RI) scored back-to-back goals and senior Emmanuel Asiedu (Lincoln, RI) scored on a penalty kick as the Rhode Island College men’s soccer team defeated Regis, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon at the RIC Soccer Field.

Regis (1-4) took the early lead when junior midfielder Renato Rosas (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) sent in a free kick from 40 yards out to freshman defender Collin Thurston (Temecula, CA), who had snuck behind the Rhode Island College (3-3) defense, to tap in an open net goal at 14:04 of the first half.

Asiedu’s penalty kick in the 30th minute made the score all even at 1-1. After making a move to avoid a defender, Asiedu was one-on-one with Regis sophomore goalkeeper Manny Calderon (Bristol, CT) before he was taken down and awarded the penalty kick.

RIC went ahead, 2-1, in the 43rd minute when junior forward Jose Zarraga’s (Providence, RI) crossing pass in the box was inadvertently kicked into the Pride net by the Regis defense.

Dogbey’s goal at the 49:11 mark, assisted by senior midfielder David Ricci (Smithfield, RI) on a pass down the right side of the field, increased the RIC lead to 3-1. His second goal of the afternoon, assisted by freshman defender Gabriel Paiz (North Providence, RI) at the 74:58 mark, put the game out of reach. The Anchormen tallied their last goal in the 85th minute when Zarraga nodded home the ball following a long throw-in by senior forward Kevin Stone (Wakefield, RI).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Bridgewater State on Wednesday, Sept. 17 (7 p.m.).
