Bridgewater, Mass.-Sophomore midfielder Devin Lambert (Albion, RI) scored his first career goal off a feed from junior forward Kevin Arboleda (Pawtucket, RI) to give the Rhode Island College men’s soccer team a 1-0 victory over Bridgewater State on Wednesday night.

Bridgewater State (2-3) put the pressure on early when sophomore midfielder Jonathan Pires (Medford, MA) nodded a shot on net following a RIC (4-3) senior defender Kwasi Boateng (East Hartford, CT) yellow card in the fifth minute, which freshman goalkeeper Adam Ghazal (Pawtucket, RI) stopped. The play remained scoreless and was back and forth for the remainder of the half with Ghazal stopping two more shots during the stanza.

The Anchormen looked to take the lead early in the second stanza on junior forward Jose Zarraga’s (Providence, RI) shot in the 54th minute that rang off the post. The play was back and forth for the rest of the half until the 74th minute when Lambert took Arboleda’s feed from the middle of the box and slid it into the left side of the net to give the Anchormen the lead, 1-0.

Following a BSU corner in the 86th minute, junior forward Conor Murtagh (Walpole, MA) blasted a shot on net, which Ghazal parried away. After a red card in the 88th minute, the Anchormen played a man down for the final two minutes, but Bridgewater State couldn’t net the equalizer

Ghazal (3-2) stopped five shots in the shutout victory, while his counterpart sophomore Colin Jepson (Sandwich, MA), made one save in the loss. Shots were even on the game, 13-13, while the Anchormen held the edge in the second half, 7-4.
