Rhode Island College (3-6) jumped out to an early, 7-1, first set advantage on the hot serving of sophomore setter Megan Armburg (Swansea, MA). The play bounced back and forth until an 8-0 run by the Anchorwomen put them up, 18-8 on the host Mariners (2-7). Rhode Island College held the hosts to only two points the rest of the way as it took the first set, 25-10.

Mitchell rushed to a 4-0 lead in the second set, but the Anchorwomen answered by winning 16 of the next 17 points to take control of the match. A kill by sophomore middle hitter Dara Johnson (Boston, MA) on a feed from freshman setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) put the Anchorwomen up, 23-13. The 10-point margin was the closest Mitchell would come as they fell, 25-14.

A 9-2 run to start the third set was all the lead the Anchorwomen would need as they sunk the Mariners, 25-16, to take the 3-0 sweep.

White led the team with 30 assists, while Armburg notched three service aces.

The Mariners were led by freshman middle blocker Myia Williams (Roselle, NJ) with a team high four kills. Junior setter Nicole Caminiti (Massapequa Park, NY) recorded team-highs in assists (10) and digs (six).

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference play at UMass Boston on Tuesday, Sept. 23 (6 p.m.).
