Providence, R.I.-Sophomores Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI) and Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) ran their unbeaten doubles streak to 7-0, as the Rhode Island College womenís tennis team topped UMass Boston, 9-0, in Little East Conference action played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.


Rhode Island Collegeís (9-0, 4-0 LEC) No. 1 doubles tandem saw senior Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT) and freshman Kim Daigle (Sterling, MA) top UMass Bostonís (1-6, 0-4 LEC) freshmen duo of Kristy Garcia (Miami, FL) and Martina Daelli (Florence, Italy), 8-2, to give the Anchorwomen the early edge.

No. 2 doubles saw junior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and partner sophomore Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) breeze by the Beacons pair of junior Logan Smith (Southwick, MA) and sophomore Kelsey Shea (West Bridgewater, MA), 8-3.  


Rounding out the doubles action for the Anchorwomen was Tiberi and Martin, who defeated the UMB pairing of sophomores Kathleen Conroy (Quincy, MA) and Vicky Woytowicz (Springfield, MA), 8-2, to earn the doubles sweep for the hosts.


Campanella topped Garcia (6-1, 7-5) at No. 1 singles, while Daigle edged Daelli (6-3, 6-2) at the No. 2 flight. No. 3 singles saw Brown earn the straight set victory over Smith (6-3, 6-3), while Reddy dominated Shea (6-0, 6-0) at No. 4 singles.


Junior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) topped Conroy (6-1, 6-3) at No. 5 singles and freshman Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) moved her individual No. 6 singles record to 7-0 with a victory over junior Nurcin Celebi (Istanbul, Turkey), 6-7 (5-7), 6-0, 10-7.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at home against Bridgewater State on Wednesday, Oct. 1 (3:30 p.m.).
