Chicopee, Mass.-Junior middle hitter Michelle Malbouef (Cumberland, RI)  recorded 26 kills to lead Rhode Island College’s women’s volleyball team to a 2-0 record as RIC defeated Elms, 3-1 (25-20, 14-25, 25-21, 25-15), and Castleton State, 3-0 (25-21, 25-9, 25-16), on Saturday afternoon.


RIC (5-7) was led on the day by junior outside hitter Lauren Palazzini (Woonsocket, RI), who finished with 21 kills, 23 digs and three service aces. Malbouef recorded 26 kills and 28 digs, while freshman setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) handed out 68 assists in the two matches.

The first match saw the Anchorwomen top the Blazers (25-20, 14-25, 25-21, 25-15). Malbouef and sophomore middle hitter Sierra Smith (Foster, RI) combined for 24 kills, while White paced the Anchorwomen with two kills, 40 assists and 15 digs. Palazzini notched a kills/digs double-double, tallying 11 of each.


The second match was a straight set victory for the Anchorwomen over the Castleton State Spartans (25-21, 25-9, 25-15). The Anchorwomen were led by Malboeuf’s double-double (12 kills, 16 assists) and White’s 28 assists. Sophomore setter Megan Armburg (Swansea, MA) notched 14 digs in the victory.


The Anchorwomen finished the day with 85 kills, 70 assists, 19 aces and 153 digs.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, Sept. 30 (6 p.m.).
