Providence, R.I.-Senior Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT) and freshman partner Kim Daigle (Sterling, MA) coasted to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles as the Rhode Island College womenís tennis team rolled to its 10th straight victory as they topped LEC foe Worcester State, 6-1, in a darkness-shortened match at the RIC Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.


Rhode Island College (10-0, 5-0 LEC) saw Brown and Daigle top the WSU pair of sophomore Shelby Jankins (West Brookfield, MA) and junior Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) in the first doubles match.

Junior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and sophomore partner Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) topped Worcester State (6-4, 2-4 LEC) freshman Faina Volf (Sharon, MA) and classmate Natalie Paul (Worcester, MA), 8-1, at No. 2 doubles.


No. 3 doubles saw  the Lancers earn their lone point of the match when senior Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA) and freshman Alexis Silk (Greenville, MA) defeat RICís pairing of sophomore Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) and freshman Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ), 9-8 (7-1), to make the Anchorwomen lead 2-1 entering singles play.


No. 1 singles saw Campanella top Jankins (6-2, 6-2), while Daigle topped Candelieri (7-5, 6-2) at the No. 2 flight. Brown defeated Volf (6-1, 6-2) at No. 3 singles, while Reddy was trailing Paul (7-5, 5-1), but the matchup was not completed due to darkness  at the No. 4 slot. 


Junior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) topped Shepard (6-2, 6-1) at No. 5 singles, while No. 6 singles saw Tiberi  leading Silk (6-4, 2-1) before the match was called due to darkness.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 11 (1 p.m.).
