Salem, Mass.-Rhode Island College sophomore Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) earned victories at No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles as the Rhode Island College women’s tennis team topped Salem State, 5-4, in Little East Conference action at the Central Campus Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.


Rhode Island College (12-1, 6-1 LEC) senior Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, CT) and freshman partner Kim Daigle (Sterling, MA) fell to Salem State’s (5-4, 4-3 LEC) junior pairing of Jennifer Cleary (Swampscott) and April McDermott (Tewksbury, MA), 8-5, at No.1 doubles.


No. 2 doubles saw RIC junior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and Reddy top the Salem State duo of junior Hillary Gustafson (Belchertown, MA) and freshman Cassie Morrison (Clinton, MA), 8-4.

No. 3 doubles saw the Anchorwomen’s pairing of sophomore Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) and junior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) fall to the senior pairing of Lauren Woods (Burlington, MA) and Emily Yanchun (Saugus, MA), 9-7, to give the Vikings the 2-1 advantage heading into singles.


Campanella fell to Cleary (6-3, 4-6, 6-1) at No. 1 singles, while Daigle beat McDermott (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 2 slot.


No. 3 singles saw Brown fall to Woods (7-6, 6-4), while Reddy breezed past Gustafson (6-3, 6-2) at No. 4 singles.


Cannata defeated Yanchun (6-3, 6-5) at No. 5 singles, while sophomore Tiberi earned the point at No. 6 singles by topping Morrison (6-4, 6-2).


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will finish its match with Bridgewater State, which was suspended due to darkness on Wednesday, on Monday, Oct. 20 (3:30 p.m.).
