Gorham, Maine-Southern Maine junior attacker Sarah Pelligrinelli (Southington, CT) recorded six goals and added one helper to lead the Huskies to a 20-7 victory over Rhode Island College in Little East Conference women’s lacrosse action played at Hannaford Field on Tuesday afternoon.


The Huskies (4-9, 1-2 LEC) jumped out early when sophomore attack Sam Compobasso (Buxton, ME) scored just 1:01 into the half. Compobasso and Pelligrinelli continued to build the lead, combining for seven goals and three assists to give the Huskies the, 13-0, advantage heading into the half.


The Huskies opened the second with a goal, but Rhode Island College (0-10, 0-4 LEC) senior attacker Danielle Landon (Wading River, NY) answered right back, scoring a goal with 26:42 remaining in the second stanza. The Anchorwomen then scored two of the next three goals, with freshman attacker Erin Durigan (Cranston, RI) and senior attacker Jessica Ricci (Hope, RI) notching the tallies.

The Huskies scored three straight times before RIC scored three straight and four of the last six goals to give the game its final margin.


Sophomore attacker Betsy Heidel (Warwick, RI) led the game with seven draw controls, with RIC holding a 16-13 advantage in that statistic for the game.


Freshman goalkeeper Alasondra Apici (Providence, RI) made 12 saves in the loss (0-10) for the Anchorwomen, while USM junior Caley Presby (Portland, ME) made two saves in the victory (4-9).


The hosts led in shots, 41-13, and ground balls, 31-12.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 21 (4 p.m.).
