Leicester, Mass.-Seniors Jessica Ricci (Hope, RI) and Danielle Landon (Wading River, NY) combined for seven goals and five assists to lead the Rhode Island College women’s lacrosse team in a 15-9 defeat to Becker in non-conference action played at Alumni Field on Tuesday afternoon.


The two teams remained close early, with a free position goal by Becker (1-2) senior attacker Amy Giguere (Colrain, MA) putting the Hawks up, 3-1, with 23:03 left in the first half. Rhode Island College (0-4) freshman midfielder Allison Smedberg (Cranston, RI) cut the deficit down to one, 3-2, with 21:53 left.  The Hawks then used a 7-1 run to close out the half to take a 10-3 advantage in to the locker room for halftime.


Ricci and Landon notched the first two goals of the second half to cut the deficit to five, 10-5, with 28:43 left in the game. The Hawks notched one goal, but a quick two-goal spurt from Ricci, with the assist on both going to Landon, cut the Becker lead down to four, 11-7, with 25:38 left in the half. The Hawks used an 8-2 run, keyed by a pair of goals by sophomore attack Erika Galdamez (Concord, CA), to take the 15-9 victory.

Freshman Alasondra Apici (Providence, RI) notched 14 saves in the setback, while senior goalkeeper Karen Prescott (New Bedford, MA) stopped seven in the victory.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College is scheduled to host Salve Regina on Thursday, March 19 (4 p.m.).
