Gorham, Maine-Rhode Island College defeated Plymouth State, 42-9, and host Southern Maine, 27-18, to pick up two New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) wins on Saturday afternoon to close out the fall semester.


Junior 141 lbs. Ricondo Cole (Cranston, RI) and sophomore Terrance Jean-Jacques (Haverhill, MA) each went 2-0 to earn All-Tournament honors.

 The Anchormen (5-1) won the first four matches against Plymouth State to open up a 22-0 lead. Cole picked up a pin at 141 lbs., while junior Joseph Slane (Tomkins Cove, NY) secured a forfeit victory and freshman Matthew Libby (Bridgewater, MA) won via a disqualification at 165 lbs.


 The Panthers battled back with a pin and a decision to cut their deficit down to 22-9, but RIC wrapped up the match by winning the final four bouts. Jean-Jacques picked up a technical fall at heavyweight, while freshman 125 lbs. Brennen Liebel (Feeding Hills, MA) and sophomore 133 lbs. Jake Dorman (Foxboro, MA) each picked up pins to close out the victory.

197 lbs. Imran Gholizadeh (RIC) dec. Cody Carrillo (PSU), 8-6

285 lbs. Terrance Jean-Jacques (RIC) tech. fall  Zack Stewart (Plymouth State) at 4:11 (25-10)

125 lbs. Brennen Liebel (RIC) pinned Alex Otis (PSU) at 1:28

133 lbs. Jake Dorman (RIC) pinned Mike Allen (PSU) at 4:25


 After USM defeated PSU, 40-9, RIC and the Huskies clashed for the Championship Match. Cole got things started in RIC's favor with his second pin of the day. The hosts countered with four straight decisions to go up by six, 12-6.

 Junior Brandon Conrad (East Bridgewater, MA) tied the match, 12-12, win a forfeit victory at 184 lbs. Sophomore John Georges (Cranston, RI) won in riding time to put the visitors on top, 15-12, at 197 lbs.


Jean-Jacques continued his dominance with a pin to increase RIC's advantage to nine points, 21-12. The Huskies countered with a pin, but junior Damen Patisaul (Plant City, FL) won by a forfeit to close out the match and win the title.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2015 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals on Jan. 9-10.
